My Tips to Avoid Overeating during Festive Season

Hello. Merry Christmas!! I am sure majority do celebrate this festive day. It’s a good opportunity for family, relatives and friends to gather for a get-together, gift exchange, watching holiday movies and many more. During this festive day, there is bound to be delicious food/treats. E.g. Roasted chicken, steak, pizza, christmas pudding, cookies and logcake etc.

These festive food sound amazing, look appetizing and taste even heavenly especially those homemade traditional recipes that were passed down through generation. Even so, there is a tendency that we may end up overeating during the festive season. Overeating can lead to unwanted weight gain and increase individual’s health risk. Here are my tips that I personally find it useful and applicable to everyone.

1. Keep yourself hydrated (at least 8 glass of water a day)

Drink a glass of plain water about 20 – 30 minutes before meal can help in a better digestion and make one feeling “full” so that you might not have the tendency to overeat.

Sometimes hunger signal might not actually mean that you are really hungry for food. You might have been dehydrated so do drink plenty of water throughout the day will help to alleviate this potential signal cross.

2. Eat slowly.

Kick start a good habit of chewing your food more thoroughly than a few quick chews, not only this help you digest better, it also help you feel more satisfied with each meal. It takes about 20 minutes for our brain to recognise the signals of satiety (body time to recognize that you are full). This mean that you may end up consuming lesser food than you normally does. 3. Get enough sleep (at least 7-8 hours per day)

Sleep deprivation has an impact on these two hormones: ghrelin and leptin. One help to regulate hunger while the another help to stimulates appetite respectively. When a person is sleep deprived, the level of ghrelin increase, while decreasing the level of leptin, leading to an increase in hunger. Thus, the person will end up eating more food that he/she normally does.

4. Do not eat and multi-task at the same time.

This is something that I am guilty of in the past. I know this is a common thing majority does, but we are unaware of how this will eventually lead to overeating. For example, when an individual is eating dinner while watching her/his favourite show on Netflix. This can form a bad habit of distracted eating.

Eating when we are distracted make it hard to listen to our body’s signal (hunger and fullness level) as we are paying more attention to the what we are watching or doing. Hence, we will more likely to overeat. So, next time when you are eating your next meal, try to just eat only with no screens or other distractions. This will not only allow you to enjoy the food but also a quick restorative break during the day.

Okay. I have come to the end of my post, hope you find these tips useful. These tips can be used on a daily basis as well. I wish you a merry Christmas and happy eating!!

Favourite Afforable Toner for 2019

Hello. Before I begin, an extra details about me is that I left my job at the end of 2018 and I am jobless since then (p.s. I took a 6 months break and been searching for a job too.) I wouldn’t denied that as the months passed by, I am getting financially tight but at the same time I would not want to skip any step of my skincare routine.

Unlike the infamous korean 10-step skincare routine, my skincare routine is rather simple consisting of 4-5 steps only. My face is a combination-sensitive skin type so I tend to get oily around my T-zone area, my cheek and forehead area do get redness often. Hence, I am particularly careful about the product that I used on my face and I do believe that less is more. It doesn’t mean the more product you put on your face, the better it is. It may cause a counter effect that worsen your skin.

So what is a toner? In scientific term, a toner is essentially a fast absorbing liquid that penetrate into the skin to deliver a quick hydration and help remove some dead skin cells off the surface of the skin. It also help to balance the pH level of the skin too. To put it simply, it is like a prep for rest of your skincare routine E.g. serum, moisturiser. Toner is recommend to be use twice daily after cleansing your face.

Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post. I personally find this product beneficial to my skin but it may or may not works for everyone. Kindly understand that every individual has different skin type and texture. Even if you have the similar skin type as me, it may or may not work for you. I recommend that you do some research before purchasing the product or patch test on your skin before usage.

This afforable toner is called the Green Tea Fresh Toner which is from Isntree, a south korea brand, that claim to use reliable natural ingredients (no harmful ingredients such as paraben, SLS, artificial fragrance etc). I liked the fact that they are against animal testing and their packaging and containers are eco friendly (recycable) which an act that I am suportive of. Site reference: Isntree

As you can see from the above, I have almost used up my toner, probably left with about 1/4 of the container. What I loved about this toner are:

1. This toner contain 80% of the green tea extract from Jeju island.

I have a huge love for green tea! FYI: Green tea is derived from a plant called Camellia sinensis that is rich in polyphenols (antioxiant molecules) which include catechins such as epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). The EGCG from the green tea contain antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial (bacteria) properties which are good for acne-prone and combination to oily skin type. Read more: Article

2. It help to control the sebum of my face

The bottle of the toner stated “helps control excessive sebum for soft skin”. I would say that it is true to what it’s written on it because I noticed that my sebum was reduced as in less oil production on my face after using it for 2 weeks. This may be due the presence of the EGCG that help to reduce the sebum production with its lipid-lowering and anti-androgenic properties. Read more: Article

3. It reduces the redness or flushed of my skin

I did noticed that everytime I apply this toner, it immediately soothes my sensitive face which is a good thing as you do not want your face to be looking like a tomato. LOL. Just kidding.

4. This toner is alcohol-free.

I tend to avoid product containing alcohol because it might irritated this delicate face of mine. I had tried toners containing alcohol in the past, these turned out to be over-stripping to my skin leaving it feeling “tight” and looking dry.

5. This toner cost about $24 for 200ml.

Compared to my previous toner (SK-II Facial Treatment Clear Lotion) costing $116 for 230ml, this toner is definitely afforable to everyone! Depend on the individual usage, I have been using this toner for 3 months and I purchased this toner from an E-commerce store, Shopee, as there is no physical store in Singapore.

How to use a toner?

There are two method to use a toner:

1st method: After cleansing your face, put an adequate amount of the product on your clean hands and gently pat it on your face to allow the product to be absorbed.

Second method: After cleansing your face, put an adequate amount of the product on the cotton pad, gently wipe it over your face and tap it lightly to let the product absorbed.

Secondly, I created this blog with a mind of sharing some information that I know to anyone whom might be interested in reading. I would be sharing information such as skincare reviews on products that I personally find it beneficial for me and hope that it benefit others too. On top on that, I would also like to share tips on keep one healthy for the body and mind because it’s something I do on a regular basis. Sometimes, I might share some personal events that occured.
