March Favourites 2020

We are into the 3rd week of April and I felt that March passes by slowly. I know that there is a lot happening with regard to the coronavirus. I shall not elaborate much and you can refer to reliable source (such as WHO and local news) for the latest updates. I hope you guys stay safe and stay home as much as possible, do remember to practice good hygiene too.

If you are new to this segment, I’ll be sharing about 2 or 3 favourites that I have used for March. It can be anything from beauty, makeup, book, music or app.

Favourite Beauty product of the month: Unicharm Silcot Sponge Touch Moisturising Cotton Pad.

I am aware that this is not a skincare product but it is related to the uses of our skincare routine. Everyone has a different method of applying their skincare. Some may prefer using their clean hands to apply while others prefer using a cotton pad. Personally, I prefer to use a cotton pad to gently wipe the toner on my face followed by gently patting the essence with my clean hands.

This facial cotton pad is unlike any other cotton pad that you get easily from the cosmetic store. Previously, I used the conventional facial cotton pad to apply the toner on my face. I felt that those cotton pads absorb about 2/3 of the toner leaving about 1/3 for the face so normally I dispensed about 5 – 6 drops of my toner. Besides, the cotton fibre would sometimes stick onto my face.

Since the discovery of Unicharm Silcot Sponge Cotton Pad, it has changed the way I applied my toner. I do not have to dispense more toner, in fact, now I dispensed half of my usual (about 3 drops). This is definitely a good sign as I am able to utilise the use of my toner by not wasting more resources.

Let me elaborate more about the Unicharm Silcot Sponge Cotton Pad.

  • The material of the cotton pad is a mix composition of pulp and cosmetic grade rayon. Regarding the percentage of these two, I am not sure of it.
  • The texture of the cotton pad is very soft that allow a smooth application of applying the toner/lotion and provide a fuss-free patting on the face.
  • One cotton pad can be separated into two sheets for the purpose of using it as a face or an eye mask. The curved design of the cotton pad easily fit the contour of the eye area
  • The cotton pad is easily moist with 50% less usage of the toner/lotion.

From the beginning of March, I started using this cotton pad and it was a pleasant experience! For me having sensitive skin, this does not cause any irritation and also not having to worry about cotton fibre sticking on my face. Most importantly, my toner does not have to run out quickly.

Given that a cotton pad can be separated into two sheets, I utilise the cotton pad efficiently by using one sheet for my toner and another for my facial essence. In that way, I am only using one cotton pad for my skincare routine! 🙂

A box of Unicharm Silcot Sponge Touch Moisturising Cotton Pad retails for 2.90 SGD for 40 puffs (80 sheets). The price seems affordable to the majority but a box contains less quantity as compared to the conventional cotton pad of 100 puffs. Ultimately, it depends on an individual’s perspective on this product, for some, it may be helpful to reduce the toner/lotion wastage while others may find it not value for money.

The Silcot cotton pad is not solely for the toner/lotion application. It can be used a quick face mask or eye mask too. A tip from me, for example, if you woke up with puffy eye, you can pour a certain amount of chilled* facial toner/essence on the pad and tear into two sheets and place it under your eye for 5 minutes before your makeup routine. It can temporarily reduce the puffiness of your eye to brighten the under-eye area.

*You can store your facial toner/essence in the refrigerator the night before.

If you are interested, you can get it at retail stores such as Watson, Guardian. It is also available to purchase online: Watson|Guardian|Lazada| Fairprice.

February Favourites 2020

Hello. I am back with a new favourite of the month.

I felt that February passes so quickly and this year is a leap year where we end February on the 29th! FYI: Leap year happen every 4 years.

If you are a new to this segment, I’ll be sharing about 2 or 3 favourites that I have used for the month of February. It can be anything from beauty, makeup, book, music or app.

Favourite Beauty product of the month: Primera Miracle Seed Essence

This essence is a hot seller in South Korea and it is highly raved by many beauty influencer. So I decided to try it out and tell you my honest opinion about it.

Primera is a South Korea cosmetic brand under Amorepacific. Primera primary focus on “germination technology that unlocks the potent effects of seed on the skin”. This mean that they put their interest on research of different type of seeds and deliver the beneficial properties to the skin giving a healthy beauty.

Unfortunately, there is no physical store of Primera in Singapore but with the help of technology, you can easily get this from e-commerce platform such as Qoo10, Shopee, Yesstyle etc.. For those who lives in US, you can easily buy this at the nearest Sephora or Primera beauty webpage (For US only). I got this from Shopee at 43 SGD for 150ml and it comes with a box of 70s cotton pad. I think the price is reasonably affordable.

Alright! let’s talk about the Primera miracle seed essence..

The essence has a water-like viscosity and it is suitable to all-skin type including sensitive skin. I did not experienced any allergic reaction when using it for the first time. FYI: my skin type is combination-sensitive.

The essence is 7 ingredients free – parabens, mineral oil, animal-derived ingredients, synthetic colorants, artificial fragrances, imidazolidinyl urea and TEA that can be potentially harmful to our skin.

The essence contain 93.1% of lotus seed extract. Lotus seed extract also known as nelumbo nucifera germ extract is rich in amino acid and linoleic acid which are responsible for the moisturising and hydrating properties. It also reduces inflammation and promotes healing.

Lotus seed extract serve as a powerful antioxidant which can be a potential anti-aging properties. It act as a free radical scavengers that protect the skin against harmful and damaging free radicals such as UVB irradiation. Lastly, it can protect the skin against environment factors such as dust or microbes.

I have been using this essence for about 2 months and I noticed that my face has a radiant glow and my skin was more hydrated than before. I also like that it helped to calm my skin (reduced redness). I feel that this essence is more toward hydration than anti-aging.

Other than these, I do like the fact that they used eco-friendly packaging which are recyclable from their glass bottle and plastic container. And their FSC-certified paper box is also printed with soy ink.

There are a few minor part that I did not like about this essence:

The first time I used the essence, I tried to pour the essence on my clean palm, it would not flow out. Eventually, I had to shake the bottle hard for the essence to come out and this issue persisted for about 3 days before it flowed out properly. I am not sure if I am the only one experiencing this problem. It could be that the “hole” might not be the right diameter for the essence to flow out.

I am not a fan of their cotton pad. Primera provided a box of pure, unbleached cotton pad for the application of the essence. Though the cotton pad is soft, I think it is unnecessary and waste of resource. I tried using the cotton pad for the first two times and the cotton pad soak up a lot of essence which mean I used more essence than usual.

On top of that, there were some cotton fibre sticking on to my skin and you wouldn’t want to put “extra” stuff on your skin to potentially irritate your skin. I prefer to apply my essence using my clean hands by patting it in for better absorption. Nevertheless, I did not throw away the box of cotton pad, I used it to remove my makeup.

Overall, I think this is a great facial essence for a hydration boost. If you are looking for an essence with hydrating properties, this might be a good choice. Also, if you are interested, feel free to look up on it online.

January Favourites 2020

Hello!

I am back with a new section where I will post my monthly favourite whether it is skincare, makeup, lifestyle, food etc… This is popular among a lot of YouTuber where they share their favourite items used in that particular month. So I decided to do that from this year.

I will be sharing about 2 or 3 of my favourite things. I know this is not a lot compared to those YouTuber but speaking and writing have a lot of difference, just so you know.

I am aware that this post is long overdue but I have been busy recently. Sorry about it.

Favourite beauty product of the month: First Aid Beauty (FAB) Face Cleanser

If you have been following my blog, you would know that my all-time favourite cleanser is none other than FRESH Soy Face Cleanser. This has been my go-to cleanser since back in year 2016. But today I am here to tell you that I have found a competitor to the FRESH Soy cleanser.

Back when I was a teenager, I used to wash my face with a cleanser for acne-prone skin. It did control my acne condition but it dried out my forehead and chin area. I felt that cleanser for a specific concern doesn’t balance the pH of my face.

Sometimes your skin varies upon the external environment. For instance, if you are expose to air-conditioned environment frequently, your skin would tend to be drier than usual. Or if you are exposed to sun frequently, you might get redness on your skin.

This is why I prefer all-skin type cleanser for a fact that it’s an all round product that can target multi skin concern at a time. And it does its job to keep my face balance by providing hydration as well as keeping my sebum at bay. Once again, this is my personal preference.

Enough said, let’s talk about the first aid beauty face cleanser.

This cleanser is a cream cleanser that is suitable for all skin types. Once it’s lather with wet hands, it become a foam.

This cleanser is FREE of harmful chemical ingredients such as parabens, artificial fragrance, alcohol, mineral oil etc.. which can be detrimental to the skin.

This cleanser is packed with botanical antioxidant booster (Licorice Root, Feverfew and White Tea extracts) to protect against environmental stress.

This cleanser also contains key ingredients such as Aloe extract (calm and nourish skin), Allantoin extract (soothe skin) and Glycerin (hydrate and smooth skin).

I have been using this cleanser for over a month now. Initially, before I brought this cleanser, I was a bit worried because I am not fond of cream cleanser due to bad experiences previously that left my face feeling dry and flaky. Hell no…

However, I told myself to give this cleanser a chance. So when I used for the very first time, after washing off my face, I was like “OMG! my face felt smooth, hydrate and soft like a baby skin”. Damn! This felt like a similar experience to using FRESH Soy Face Cleanser. I continued using for a couple of weeks and I must say that I am impressed by this cleanser. It helped to balance my skin pH level and does not cause any breakout too.

The cost of this cleanser is fairly reasonable which range from $18 to $55. And it come in 3 sizes: 56.7g (2oz), 142g (5oz) and 226g (8oz). The size that I am currently using is 142g(5oz) priced at $34.

Price stated in SGD

If you are in a lookout for a new cleanser that is reasonable priced, I highly recommend this. I would suggest you to start off using the mini size cleanser to see if your skin agree with this product.

Favourite food product of the month: Fortune Bo Lo Pineapple Balls by Crystal Jade My Bread

On the 25th January, I celebrated Chinese New Year with my family and our family tradition was to buy pineapple tart as it represents arrival of prosperity. Every year our pineapple tart would be a different brand as we wanted to try out newly innovated ones which could be a surprised.

FYI: Chinese new year is also known as spring festival or lunar new year which is the beginning of a new year according to the traditional Chinese calendar or the first day of the first month in the traditional Chinese calendar.

For Chinese new year 2020:

This pineapple ball is different from the conventional pineapple ball that we are familiar with. The pastry is smooth and fairly buttery with the golden “bolo” (sugary butter) crust that adds a level of crispiness. The crust is neither too flaky nor the-melt-in your mouth. The jam taste decent with fibrous pineapple bits. Overall, this pastry was well balanced with sweetness of the top crust.

My mum loved this pineapple balls so much that she must eat one per day. She is quite particular about sweetness in food and this was still acceptable. This retails for $24.90 for a tin containing 20 pineapple balls. If you are interested to try it, you probably have to wait till next year Chinese new year to purchase it.

Okay! I have come to end of my post for my favourites. I know it’s short post but more content will be coming up so stay tuned. If you are interested in the products that were mentioned, feel free to look it up online!

Have a good day ahead!

Cheers!
